solzinho (sunbath)

KiöR

Estela Sokol’s project, "Solzinho" (Sunbath), is comprised of an original sculpture designed for an outdoor area in Zurich, Switzerland, developed within the urban art program "GASTRÄUME 2020": Fasznierende Impulse ("Guest Room 2020": Fascinating Impulse), created by the work group Art in Public Areas (AG KiöR). In its eighth edition, the open air exhibition featured artists such as Spanish Jacobo Castellano, Italian Aldo Mozzini, and Swiss Ugo Rondinone and Corina Rüegg, who share the Swiss capital urban art scene with Estela Sokol.

The sculpture has been installed at Turbinemplatz, where it’ll be on display from June 27th to September 20th 2020. Its scale, material and weight greatly dialogue with the city and are subjected to the effects of weathering and sunlight.

As reads the title, its concrete form resembles that of a sun and a half moon which, through the interac-tion of its materials, pigmented cement, photoluminescent photons and brass, dialogues with the energy of sunlight and night lighting in many different ways as it absorbs or reflects them.

Sokol appropriates basic shapes that inhabit the imagination of people who walk around the site, linking them by juxtaposition, rapprochement or balance; taking advantage of the various colors, tones and mate-rialities of things in order to approximate them to worldly objects.
