estela sokol, sao paulo, 1979
lives and works in sao paulo, brazil.
in the pursuit of a new pictorial mindset in sculpture, the artist uses color and light as key elements and combines painting techniques such as encaustic, pigment, spray and enamel to materials like concrete, beeswax, stone, paraffin, foam, steel, brass, wood, graphite, fabric, ceramic and resin. tone shifts and diverse nuance are, thus, recurrent in her work. especially for the paintings on plastic sheets which are juxtaposed between transparent and opaque industrial pallet plastic sheets stretched on wooden frames revealing new colors – which establish a dialogue with the heritage of painting and the history of art.
